The first weekend of Coachella 2017, an event celebrating the music and arts went down over the first weekend starting Friday, April 14 running through till Sunday, April 16 at Indio, California, USA.
The event witnessed surprise appearances and performances by Drake and fellow countrty man The Weeknd. Drake joined Hip Hop act Future on the Coachella stage while The Weeknd performed on Nav’s set.
Drake performed some of his hit songs including ‘Jumpman,’ ‘Gyalchester,’ and ‘Fake Love’.
Fan favourite rapper Kendrick Lamar also comes through as he closed the first weekend of the Valley, Music and Arts Festival with assist from guest stars such as SchoolboyHQ, Travis Scott and Future, all three also having their individual sets at the festival.
From reports gathered, the Compton rapper could have done without the guest stars that joined him on stage.
Lamar kicked off the show a few minutes early with ‘DNA’ off his new album “DAMN” – released just recently on Friday April 14, among other tracks on the album such as the raved ‘Humble,’ ‘God” and ‘Love’.
Lamar also entertained fans with a Kung Fu Kenny alter ego.
Reaching back to his earlier work, he entertained his fans with ‘Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe,’ ‘Backstreet Freestyle,’ and ‘m.A.A.d city’ off his “good kid, m.A.A.d city” album and ‘King Kunta‘ off his “To Pimp A Butterfly” critically acclaimed album.
Other stars that graced the stage over the past weekend were among others Tory Lanez, DJ Snake, DJ Khaled, who brought along French Montana, Rick Ross, 2Chainz, Wale, Asap Ferg and Migos. Radiohead, Lorde, who premiered new music ‘Homemade Dynamite‘ off her upcoming album “Melodrama“, and Lady Gaga, who took over from Beyonce as headliner also came through on Saturday night of event.
Nigerian Juju legend King Sunny Ade who was previously billed to perform ended up being pulled out with the reasons best known to Sunny and his management, who have not come out to say what the reason was from the findings of Pulse.
The first weekend was reportedly marred with technical glitches for some of the acts including Lady Gaga, but wasn’t enough to break the spirit of the show.
The second weekend of the festival comes up Friday, April 21 running through to climax on Sunday, April 23, 2017.
